A well-executed integration can be compared to an experienced waiter: discreet yet capable of delivering exactly what customers expect. And Boomi exemplifies this by its exceptional performance, as recognized by Gartner in the renowned Gartner Magic Quadrant for Integration Platform as a Service. Boomi takes the mantle of a leading IPaaS for the 11th time, marking its excellence once again since the ranking's inception.
What does Boomi change? AI, APIs, and solid data
Boomi continues to evolve into a more comprehensive integration environment each year. By supporting app atom integrations within the areas related to data and API management, workflow automation, B2B/EDI, and – now – AI agent management, it excels at simplifying and accelerating the entire digital transformation process. The key innovations include:
Boomi AgentStudio
The upgrade we will talk about first, and – from my perspective – may be the most interesting one, is the introduction of Boomi AgentStudio.
This is one of the latest additions to the Boomi portfolio – and in my opinion, a key factor in Gartner naming Boomi the leading iPaaS. This innovation facilitates effective and coordinated operations with AI agents, including their acquisition, creation, discovery, management, and monitoring.
Gartner states that: “By 2028, 33% of enterprise software applications will include agentic AI, up from less than 1% in 2024, enabling 15% of day-to-day work decisions to be made autonomously.”
Due to that, agentic AI systems (in a very broad sense) are becoming an essential feature of integration platforms.
Boomi AgentStudio includes:
- Agent Designer – enabling the creation and execution of AI agents, and offering ready-to-use components,
- Agent Control Tower – this functionality enables the monitoring and maintenance of agents, both external and created with the Agent Designer feature.
- Agent Garden – enables the creation, testing, execution, and management of AI agents; what makes this feature interesting is the usage of natural language, offering a low entry barrier and allowing users to accelerate the pace of work.
- Agent Marketplace – here, you can find ready-to-use AI agents created by both Boomi and/or their partners. The only thing you need to do is to configure them and put them to use.
The tools for AI agents management are still an uncharted territory on the market; however, the demand for them grows exponentially. A solution that would facilitate structuring their workflow and processes, and which would most precisely answer the actual market demand, will surely be highly sought after. And I do believe that Boomi may become – or already is – such a tool.
Extended API management
Another factor contributing to Boomi’s advantage in this year’s Magic Quadrant is the two significant acquisitions that enhanced the enterprise-level API management capabilities available to clients.
- The first one – APIIDA – concentrated on aggregated API interfaces, aiming at solving the issue of their excessive growth.
- The other acquisition related to the gathering of the API management assets – i.e., the former Cloud Software Group (TIBCO) product, Mashery. This move enables Boomi to scale to an almost infinite extent. The latest Forrester research indicates that 57% of companies face challenges managing APIs from multiple vendors. Additionally, 55% of them reported difficulties in searching for and easily implementing new users.
This is – again – a chance well-seized by Boomi, who has decided to solve one of the potential user problems (the other one being the security of exposed APIs).
To do so, Boomi has decided to update its API Management Services by creating the Boomi API Control Plane. What are the benefits of this newly-found structure? The most vital for me are:
- the possibility of identifying all the organizational APIs, including “shadow APIs,”
- facilitating the API management system to manage all actions from one area of the platform,
- Improving the security policy,
- Improving the scalability with API Economy to manage the whole API lifecycle.
Boomi Data Integration (formerly Rivery)
In terms of Boomi’s continuous improvement, the topic of integration and data centralization looks very nicely. We can also see that this company pays a great deal of attention to the basics. What is interesting, this feature is also a result of a successful M&A (merger & acquisition). The technology created formerly by Rivery (the company that was acquired) has improved the processes of bulk data transfer, which later becomes either a part of data science processes or AI processing. This possibility has come to fruition thanks to the application of the ELT, ETL, as well as CDC processes.
As we know, each year the companies gather an increasing amount of data that has to be aggregated, shared, maintained, and analyzed. Some of them happen to undergo various processes within different solutions. Moving such large amounts of data was troublesome on many levels, e.g., to data warehouses, which was dealt with by the update of Boomi DataHub.
Another important innovation is collecting data from existing data stores to handle this aspect, a reverse ETL was utilized. This method enhances data quality, which can then be utilized to improve vital business processes or to support optimization, predictive analytics, or decision-making tools (such as our Production Scheduler).
Additionally, with the possibility of executing actions in the business systems, the aforementioned today AI agents will receive a set of tools to autonomously manage data in the enterprise systems.
Boomi IPaaS: is it worth it?
It’s true – I wouldn’t recommend Boomi to just anyone. However, if you’re looking for a scalable solution that allows you to atomize the integration processes and – first and foremost – a provider that listens to the market demand, this is the platform I can gladly recommend.
For some, watching Boomi sweep the #iPaaS awards year after year might become a bit of a hobby.
As for me, I still feel a sense of pride that, as of today, we at @Bimodal Solutions remain the only Silver-Tier distributor and pioneer of this solution on the Polish market.
Fingers crossed for more milestones ahead!
